Choosing the right carpet for your bedroom is one of the most important flooring decisions you will make. The bedroom is where you start and end every day — it should feel warm, comfortable and welcoming underfoot.

Pile Type: The Most Important Decision

The pile type determines how your carpet looks, feels and wears. There are three main types:

• Twist pile — The most popular choice for bedrooms. The fibres are twisted tightly, giving a textured appearance that hides footprints and vacuum marks. Extremely durable and available in hundreds of colours.
• Saxony — A luxurious, cut pile carpet with long, soft fibres that stand upright. Creates a smooth, velvety appearance. Shows footprints more than twist pile but feels incredibly soft underfoot.
• Loop pile (Berber) — The fibres are looped rather than cut. Very durable and easy to clean. Less common in bedrooms but a good choice for children's rooms.

Fibre: Wool vs Synthetic

Wool carpets are the premium choice — naturally soft, naturally resilient and naturally stain-resistant. They last longer than synthetic carpets and feel warmer underfoot. However, they cost more.

Polypropylene and nylon carpets are more affordable and have improved significantly in quality. Modern synthetic carpets can look and feel very similar to wool at a fraction of the price.

Colour and Pattern

Lighter colours make a room feel larger and more airy. Darker colours feel warmer and cosier. Neutral tones (beige, grey, cream) are the most popular choice as they are versatile and timeless.

Patterned carpets can add character to a bedroom but can also date more quickly. If you are unsure, stick with a plain colour in a mid-tone.
